Analysis

The full story

Both players came in with pawn plans. White drafted Juke, House Recruit, and Power Infusion: push pawns through traffic, add new ones, upgrade the best ones. Black answered with Shift, House Recruit, and Power Infusion, trading Juke's vertical jumps for sideways slides.

The spells started early. White's first Juke pushed the f-pawn straight through its own knight. Black turned the c6 pawn into a knight with Power Infusion, and White's summoned h6 pawn got captured almost immediately. The game settled into a fight between two upgrade engines. White summoned a pawn on e4 and later promoted it into a knight. Summon, then upgrade: that's the combo working as designed.

Black's Shift kept doing un-chesslike things. The b7 pawn slid sideways to g7 through two occupied squares. Later, the king itself shifted from h7 all the way to d7, passing straight through three squares. A 2-mana spell rewriting king safety.

Meanwhile White's b-pawn, Juked forward through blockers all game, reached b8 and became a second queen. But Black's attack came faster. With a queen on d2 and a knight landing on g5, White's exposed king ran out of answers. White resigned at move 115, still holding 8 mana and three unused Power Infusion casts. The player who kept casting beat the player who stopped.
